i would like to take this space to say "hey" to my family (probably the only people who read my silly ponderings). my family is in florida, the beautiful (but vulnerable) peninsula that it is has been hit by 4 hurricanes this season. you really can't predict the weather in florida. even though the meterologists try and try they inevitably get it wrong. Now, florida is the sunshine state, but also the lightning capital of the world!? my theory is that because of so much sunshine- the water on the ground and from the lakes evaporates quicker sending it into the atmosphere, where we all know (thanks to earth science) produces clouds that collide with fronts (low and high pressure- from the jet stream) that in turn causes thunderstorms and lots of lightning. so it should really be called the lightning state or thunderstorm state.
sigh, i miss florida
