We are so thankful for friends who have free recycling and let us pile our plastics in their bins. Making you pay to recycle is ridiculous, of course I realize it depends on where you live. It makes me furious that they get your money and then get the money from recycling whatever it is you recycled.
I digress.
What completely astonishes me is the limitations they place on what's considered recyclable and what's not. For instance, Covington only allows you to recycle # 1 & # 2 plastics, but the majority of plastics these days are #4's, #5's, and #7's. So just because the the plastic says, "Please Recycle", it doesn't necessarily mean you can.
So World, keep making pleas to recycle, but in effect you won't recycle them anyway.

Well, it's better than nothing at all, I guess, but still annoying.
we pay for it too and it bugs me each week!!
We drop all of our paper products off at those fund raising bins at schools and libraries and whatnot. We compost absolutely everything possible. And we hope that someday we can recycle for free. Back home, recycling was so easy. Everyone in the whole city had three different color coded bins delivered to them, free of charge. Every week, you set your bins out, and every week they come and collect them free of charge.
What??!! I've never even heard of this! Maybe we are paying for it and I don't even know it? Could this be possible?
In their defense, it actually costs them more (gas, maintenance, etc) to pick up your recyclables than they receive by recycling your stuff.
So with that in mind it does makes sense for them to charge you for it.
Now, if they charged you to drop your own recyclables off somewhere - that would be ridiculous.
Our city actually sorts through the trash to remove recycling products, that way they don't have to make a special trip to pick them up. Although that sure seems like it would take a lot of effort too.
We have "free" recycling but we're paying for it in taxes somehow... so it really isn't ever "free"...
